Mariam + Darrin

Planning Mariam and Darrin's wedding weekend was an honor and also a deeply personal experience for me. As Mariam's cousin, watching her grow into the beautiful, smart, and kind woman she is today has been a privilege, and to help bring her dream wedding to life felt incredibly special. Mariam and I have been close since we were little girls, and getting to know Darrin on a deeper level was so much fun. The couple trusted me throughout the process and believed in their curated vendor team, which, in turn, gave them an incredible result.

We started the festivities on Friday evening with a Welcome Party and traditional Iraqi Henna Party at Ironlight! Guests enjoyed the patio on the sunny May day and an over-the-top Middle Eastern buffet. Following dinner, everyone was entertained by the singing and dancing of the henna portion, and then the dance floor was filled, prepping for the rest of the wedding. Saturday was a lovely, intimate rehearsal dinner with the wedding party and close family at Waverley Country Club. The heartfelt speeches brought out laughs and tears, and the views were unmatchable.

The ceremony on Sunday took place at Our Lady of the Lake Church, which holds deep sentimental value for Mariam. She attended services there as a child, so it was only fitting that the church became the backdrop for her big day. Her brother, Father Thomas, a Syrian Orthodox Priest in California, and Father John Kerns co-officiated the ceremony, making it an especially intimate and spiritual affair.

Mariam looked absolutely stunning as she made her way down the aisle with her dad, her dress from Anna's Bridal flowing with grace and her eyes sparkling with joy. The look on Darrin's face as he saw his bride for the first time was unforgettable—his eyes lit up with love, admiration, and pure happiness. It was one of those moments you wish you could bottle up forever.

The church, already beautiful in its simplicity, was brought to life by Blum Floral with lush greens and hanging vines that Mariam envisioned. She wanted to create an atmosphere that felt natural and fresh for her wedding while also embracing the liveliness of spring. The floral arrangements throughout the day incorporated neutrals and some more vibrant burganies that added just the right amount of lightness and color to balance the greenery.

After the ceremony, we moved downtown to The Ritz-Carlton Hotel for a breathtaking cocktail hour and reception. The room was elegantly draped in greenery, with vines cascading down from the ceiling over VIP tables and the dance floor, transforming the space. With patterned linens, velvet napkins, soft uplighting, personalized menu cards, and elegant chargers, the textures were lush and elegant. Mariam's vision of blending natural elements with a soft, springy vibe came together perfectly.

The dinner was divine, featuring a menu that had guests raving all night. My favorite was the scallop and pork belly starter! The Ritz's service was impeccable, with every detail carefully attended to. As the night unfolded, it was clear that it was a celebration of love but also of family, tradition, and joy. The laughter and energy on the dance floor, thanks to Chad Dowling Productions, created an atmosphere that felt almost magical. For Mariam and Darrin, it was the perfect start to their next chapter (they are now expecting their first baby boy!), and for everyone in attendance, it was a night to remember. Thankfully, the next day was Memorial Day, so guests had a day to recover.

As I reflect on the day, I'm filled with pride and joy—not only for helping to create this beautiful event but also for witnessing my sweet cousin marry the love of her life.

XOXO, Nora
